A Forage-Based Seedstock Program

Range-Raised, Registered Angus Cattle
Working with Nature

Working with Nature

To improve the cattle and the range, we're focused on working with nature. We try to graze year round with minimal supplementation. To do this, we calve in May and June; and move the cattle through a grazing rotation designed to improve plant diversity and soil health.

Angus Genetics

Angus Genetics

Most Angus cattle have gotten too large and require too many inputs to thrive in a low-cost production system. We select AI sires for a balance of performance traits that fit our environment—the short-grass prairie of northeastern Colorado.

Developing Bulls

Developing Bulls

We develop bulls on grass. It takes longer and they won't be as fat as grain-developed bulls, but they are not going to melt when you turn them out. Their feet are going to be better and the bulls last longer. Bulls are available most times of the year.

 Our Story

Our Story

We used to raise bulls like most other outfits—calve in January and February, develop calves on grain to make 1,200 lb at about a year of age and push for more growth. But for a variety of reasons, we changed. We think it's possible to make ranching more enjoyable and profitable by focusing on what cattle do best—grazing. Continued selection for maximum growth makes for large cows that require large amounts of feed. Good moderate cows will net better returns. The math is pretty straightforward, and I don't like getting up in the middle of the night in February to check heifers just because it's below zero out. [More]

A.I. Sires

These sires were elected for their multi-trait excellence and their ability to sire calves that can perform in a tough environment. Fertility is the cornerstone of any program. We layer onto that docility, calving ease, structural correctness, and end-product merit.
